         November 6 2024, Nairobi, Kenya
Kelvin Wuantai, an Environment Officer with the Department of Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change in Kajiado County, delivered a stirring call to action as the three-day, The Kenya Landscapes Actors' Platform 2024 conference on collaborative innovation and knowledge-sharing to restore and sustain Kenya’s landscapes came to a close. The conference, attended by a wide array of environmental actors, aimed to deepen partnerships and promote sustainable practices that can revive and protect Kenya’s rich landscapes for generations to come.

Throughout the gathering, attendees explored themes of sustainability, restoration, and innovation, engaging in meaningful discussions on how to tackle Kenya’s pressing environmental challenges. "The exchange of ideas, knowledge, and experiences has highlighted the power of collaboration. Each sector’s unique perspective has allowed us to forge a unified commitment to Kenya’s environmental future," said Wuantai in his closing remarks.

The conference's focus areas aligned closely with the Kajiado County Government's strategic priorities under its County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP). Key areas discussed included the county's goals to make towns more livable, promote modulated pastoralism, foster climate-proofed environments, and enhance globally competitive education. Highlighting Kajiado's ongoing conservation efforts, Wuantai noted the county’s four key forests, including two gazetted forests, Entarara and Oldoinyo Orok, which are critical to the region's ecosystem health.

In his speech, Wuantai urged participants to "carry forward the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding" that characterized the conference. He emphasized that unity is essential in achieving shared environmental goals, stating, "Now is the time to set aside differences and work together towards a greener, healthier, and more resilient Kenya."
As participants bid farewell, the conference ended on a hopeful note, encouraging continued collaboration among Kenya’s landscape actors to build a sustainable and climate-resilient future. Wuantai expressed gratitude to all who contributed, saying, "Your dedication to this cause is what will make a lasting impact on Kenya's landscapes."
