The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) has called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to enhance soil health and boost agricultural productivity across Africa. Speaking at the 8th Africa Agri Expo 2025, IFDC Kenya Country Director, Bridget Okumu, emphasized that healthy soils are the foundation of sustainable agriculture and food security.

"Healthy soils are crucial for thriving ecosystems, food production, and climate mitigation," Okumu said. "A collaborative approach involving farmers, governments, researchers, NGOs, and the private sector is essential to adopting sustainable soil management practices."

The IFDC highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at improving soil health, including the Coalition of Action for Soil Health (CA4SH), a global effort to address policy and investment barriers to sustainable farming, and the Coalition of Implementors for Fertilizers and Soil Health (CIFSH), an African-led initiative to promote responsible fertilizer use and boost crop yields.

Government support, research, and private-sector innovation were underscored as key drivers of better soil health. "By fostering partnerships, we can ensure the long-term productivity and resilience of our agricultural systems," Okumu concluded.

The Africa Agri Expo remains a major platform connecting African agribusinesses with global stakeholders, promoting solutions that drive agricultural transformation across the continent.
