Kenya Landscapes Actors' Platform 2024: A Collaborative Approach to Climate Action and Conflict Resolution

        November 6, 2024 | Nairobi, Kenya

The Kenya Landscapes Actors' Platform 2024 conference, held in Nairobi, brought together diverse stakeholders from across Kenya and the region to discuss strategies for sustainable land and resource management in the face of climate change. The event highlighted collaborative efforts, shared learning, and integrated approaches to environmental stewardship and community-driven conservation.
A key address was delivered by Dr. Kim Geheb, Coordinator of the Central Component of Landscapes for Our Future at CIFOR-ICRAF. Dr. Geheb shared valuable insights into CIFOR-ICRAF’s innovative approach to climate action, emphasizing their commitment to collaborating with local communities to restore the relationship between people and the landscapes they depend on. This approach, he explained, goes beyond environmental restoration to tackle deep-seated issues such as resource conflicts driven by scarcity.

Conflicts often arise from the lack of sufficient resources,” Dr. Geheb remarked. “We’re working directly with communities to strengthen their capacity for sustainable management of their environment. By empowering them to take ownership, we’re not only fostering environmental sustainability but also reducing tensions and promoting harmony.”

The conference showcased various ongoing projects and partnerships aimed at building community resilience, restoring degraded lands, and enhancing ecosystem services. Attendees from government agencies, non-profit organizations, and local communities discussed best practices for scaling up similar initiatives nationwide.
As climate change continues to impact Kenya, platforms like the Kenya Landscapes Actors' Platform play a critical role in mobilizing actors across sectors to address environmental and social challenges together. The conference  brings renewed commitment among participants to protect Kenya's landscapes, preserve biodiversity, and support communities in stewarding their natural resources.

According to the KDA, the scope in question allows unqualified para-professionals to engage in dental procedures without appropriate curriculum-based training or the necessary competencies. The association accuses the KMPDC, under the leadership of its chairperson Prof. Stanley Khainga , of ignoring its mandate to ensure that Kenyans access the highest attainable standard of healthcare. KDA warns that this misstep poses a serious threat to patient safety and public health, potentially leading to ...
